Emergence is the superb CD from jazz
trumpeter/singer Sue Richardson, launched at
the London Jazz Festival November 2007. The
album is full of original songs written by Sue,
influenced by her experiences in Havana and
New Orleans. In addition there are two of Sue's
favourite standards, given modern
twists and using their rare verses.
This, her second CD, shows her engaging voice
and warm trumpet sound to full advantage, as
she takes you from swinging up-tempo jazz
through thoughtful ballads to a sultry Cuban
number. The recording also shows off her gold-flower trumpet, especially made for
Sue by award-winning Eclipse Trumpets, of whom Sue is a proud endorsee.
Sue's debut album "Out of a Song" was released in May 2004 on Splash Point Records. The album is a collection of Sue's own compositions and some great standards all arranged by Sue.
l i n e r n o t e s
I've been waiting for an album by Sue Richardson and here it is, Out of a Song. I met Sue on a one-day workshop a couple of years ago. She got up to sing... immediately one could hear that this was not only a great singer, but a great musician too! I wasn't surprised to find out later that she also plays a pretty mean trumpet. Sue has been blessed with a naturally warm, intimate and unaffected singing voice. She has that rare gift of coaxing you in to her world of music and song. Out of a Song is a collection of some well-chosen jazz standards - check out Gershwins' A Foggy Day - which starts off as a duet with guitar and voice, weaving in and around each other in perfect harmony. Then there's the self-penned Out of a Song, a bluesy ballad and one of my favourites. Each song tells a story and takes you on a musical journey. The rhythm section is marvelously supportive and sympathetic. This is an inspired musical collaboration that brings joy and a freshness with each repeated listening. Anita Wardell
