Beats & Roots brings together the compositions played by the students as well as key elements from the GCSE & A Level syllabi, such as fusion, blues and the progression from jazz to pop. With interactive elements for the audience it is also great fun. This concert has a relaxed narrative and as well as being educationally useful for students is also an enjoyable concert for friends and parents. The concert can be performed in a variety of ways - as a stand-alone; with the students from the workshop performing during the first half and/or with instrumental staff from the school taking part should they wish. All songs performed can be supplied as sheet music and recordings for use in class to enhance and deepen learning. These can be used to study form, cadences, chord progressions and other musical elements.
